We're different.
To understand why, it helps to understand the history of what has happened to PT practice ownership. Over the last several decades, large business conglomerates, such as venture capital groups, have identified outpatient PT as a financial opportunity. As a result, they've built and acquired many of the clinics that you see today. Businessmen, with zero healthcare experience, have formed the foundation of corporately owned PT clinics. For most of these facilities, motives of gaining market share and profit have made their way downstream into daily operations, such as employee hiring, appointment scheduling, therapist continuing education, and even the equipment within the clinics. Ultimately, the quality of care suffers, and many physical therapists end up with early career burnout.
In contrast, the motivation for building EIP Physical Therapy is derived from a passion for helping people; the presupposition that the current state of PT is suboptimal; and the desire to strive for excellence. When our business and rehab decisions stay true to these values, patients receive better care, employees achieve career fulfillment, and we raise the standard of care for PT as a whole.
My PT journey started with a shoulder injury as a junior tennis player. My initial experience was actually disappointing--the therapist was arrogant, the rehab program lacked direction, and it ultimately slowed my recovery and development as a tennis player. However, the failed PT experience helped shape my values as a therapist today. At that time in high school, I knew that physical therapy was my vocation. Fast-forward through a college tennis career, PT school, the first part of my professional career, and now, I've never lost sight of the struggles that I experienced as a patient, nor the difference a good physical therapist can make.
